What seafood should you try in Phu Quoc?
Phu Quoc is an island, so the thing most worth trying is the seafood. On our raft it comes from Rach Vem fishermen and stays alive in the pens until it is cooked.
Here is the seafood on our menu right now, with the listed prices:
- Crab: Ghẹ Hấp (steamed blue swimming crab) 650,000 VND/kg, or Cơm Chiên Ghẹ (crab fried rice) 150,000 VND/portion
- Sea urchin: Nhum Nướng (grilled sea urchin) 20,000 VND/piece
- Mantis shrimp: Tôm Tích Cháy Tỏi (with crispy garlic) 800,000 VND/kg
- Pen-shell scallop: Cồi Biên Mai Nướng (grilled) 500,000 VND/kg
- Cobia: Cá Bớp Kho Tộ (braised in a clay pot) 500,000 VND/kg
- Snails: Ốc Nhảy Hấp (steamed jumping snails) 450,000 VND/kg, Ốc Hương Hấp (steamed Babylon snails) 750,000 VND/kg
- Oysters: Hàu Nướng Phô Mai / Mỡ Hành (grilled with cheese or scallion oil) 30,000 VND/piece
What do guests on the raft order most?
The dishes our guests order most are Cơm Chiên Ghẹ, Cá Bớp Kho Tộ, Ốc Nhảy Hấp, Cồi Biên Mai Nướng, Ghẹ Hấp and Tôm Tích Cháy Tỏi. Each one has a real photo and its price on the Best Sellers page.
How much does a seafood meal in Phu Quoc cost?
Dishes priced by the kg can be ordered from 200g each, except Cá Bớp Kho Tộ, which starts at 300g. We weigh the seafood in front of you and tell you the total before the kitchen starts. Listed prices include VAT.
If you would rather not choose, take the Rach Vem Signature Combo: A five-dish seafood set shared by the table, with a round-trip speedboat ticket, 650,000 VND per adult. The combo is for guests who book ahead, from 2 guests.
What about herring salad and bún quậy?
Gỏi cá trích (raw herring salad) and bún quậy (a Phu Quoc noodle dish) are the two dishes people mention most when they talk about Phu Quoc. Neither is on our menu, and you will find them more easily around Duong Dong.
In the north, eat what the fishing village has: Seafood straight from the pens, and you choose the one you want cooked.
Eat in the north or in Duong Dong?
Duong Dong has more restaurants and they are close by. Rach Vem is further, about 30 minutes’ drive, but you eat right over the sea and see the seafood in the pens before you order.
If you come to Rach Vem, add the 10-minute speedboat ride to Ham Rong Cape, or wade into the shallows in front of the village to see the starfish at low tide.
